Eucalyptus globulus subsp.bicostata plug plants (Southern Blue Gum)

Plug plants are 10-20 cm high seedlings grown in trays of small cells. They can be planted directly in the ground. There are 100 plug plants in a tray. Eucalypts should be planted at at a minimum of 1,667 plants per hectare although for short rotation forestry and in exposed conditions they will fair better at stocking densities of 2,000 – 2,500 per hectare. This species:

  • Tolerates coastal and saline conditions
  • Range 0-800m asl
  • Establishes well within a sheltered forest microclimate
  • Cold tolerance to -6 degrees,
  • Thrives on clay-loam sites
  • Juvenile sessile leaves, dull, greyish and waxy
  • Adult leaves large -150-400mm long, glossy, green
  • Plant on most protected sites
  • Competitive for near-surface soil moisture
  • To 60m height, dense timber 900kg/m-3, suitable for general construction/biomass
  • Very rapid growth, on the right climatically protected site, of 50m3/ha/yr in UK

Description

Please note:

  • 100 plug plants per tray
  • These species are reared in Guernsey and dispatched from Bristol or Penrith.
  • The earliest we can dispatch plug plants is April. The latest we can dispatch is mid June. Sometimes we have small quantities of larger plants available at other times of year. Please enquire if you are interested.
  • Each tray has a plant passport
  • We currently cannot supply to the EU.
