WillowSolutions.info – the new name for Crops for Energy

We have changed our trading name to WillowSolutions.info.

What’s in a name

For a number of years Crops for Energy as a business has been looking Beyond Bioenergy. Many of the most exciting services we now offer clients involve environmental solutions. Unfortunately Crops for Energy as a name doesn’t really cover this broad spectrum of applications and was limiting the opportunity for the brand. Crops for Environment didn’t sound like a great alternative and we have already used Envirocrops for the decision support web app we’ve developed.

WillowSolutions.info provides most of the same services as Crops for Energy but we are

  • Majoring in Willow*, and
  • More focussed on environmental applications
  • Sharing as much of our knowledge as possible from our combined 65 years of involvement in the wilow game.

WillowSolutions.info therefore seems like a really appropriate name. We believe that willow is the perennial biomass crop with the greatest potential to enable environmental benefits as we play catch up in fighting climate change. We also want people to learn from our experience and use the website as a means to replicate successful projects and avoid common pitfalls.

I sometimes describe my three decades of experience as

“30 years of hurt never stopped me dreaming!”

In the last few years I have personally come to the conclusion that bioenergy is not the best use for this versatile biomaterial. Short Rotation Coppice willow crops provide benefits whilst the crop is growing and as carbon lean bioresources when harvested. Whereas, cutting down trees and burning them for bioenergy polarises views, most people can immediately understand the benefits of using compost made from willow chips as a peat free alternative or welcome the use of a willow plantation or buffer strip as a means of flood mitigation.

The name Crops for Energy hampered us. We had to defend a position. WillowSolutions.info allows us to be on the front foot helping clients make money and cut costs whilst benefiting the environment and positively moving forward towards a Net Zero Future.

*We are also selling other productive biomass planting material such as poplar, Eucalyptus, Miscanthus as well as native tree plug plants for agroforestry. Whatever, your agroforestry needs we can help!
