Plug plants are 10-20 cm high seedlings grown in trays of small cells. They can be planted directly in the ground. There are 100 plug plants in a tray. Eucalypts should be planted at at a minimum of 1,667 plants per hectare although for short rotation forestry and in exposed conditions they will fair better at stocking densities of 2,000 – 2,500 per hectare. See our planting guidelines for more information.
Well suited to temperate climates with cool wet winters. In southern England this species can produce very high yields. At a site in Treworder, Cornwall the average tree height was 10.1 metres and the diameter at breast height (DBH) was 10.2 cm just 40 months after planting! Over the entire plantation this translates to an incremental yield of 30 cubic metres per hectare per year.
