Our plug plants are reared from seeds acquired from pure native species tree and shrub willows of known provenance. These are unique lines, and a tray of plants will demonstrate a normal distribution curve. The average growth rate will be far lower than productive SRC varieties and they will take longer to reach maturity.
The size of each plant is between 15 – 50cm in height from the root plug.
Plant this willow to bring wildlife to your farm setting as they will provide homes for moth and butterfly larvae and caterpillars, leaf eating invertebrates and predatory arthropods. Goat Willows have large pussy willow catkins that attract bees and other pollinators in late winter and early spring. Where there are insects you’ll get birds. An absolute must if you want to boost your biodiversity.
Salix caprea tends to produce a slighter harder wood than other willows. A goat willow log will therefore endure slightly longer when used in a stove.
