We were a partner in the EU Unterreg BioWill project which looked at trying to harness the biorefinery potential of willow:

• Utilising the bark wood for producing pharmaceutical products particularly salicins
• Using the bark residue and pulp wood for biopackaging
• Investigating the potential for waste material to be used for biomathane production.

In years to come as we endeavour to meet Net Zero goals we will need to get much more more efficient at harnessing all the potentialities from versatile crops like willow.
